Man dies at beach after trying to rescue relatives

A man died on a beach after running into the sea to help two relatives who had "got into difficulty", police have said.

The incident happened at about 15:50 BST on bank holiday Monday on Tregirls Beach near Padstow, Cornwall.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the man, who lived locally, suffered a cardiac arrest after reportedly entering the water to assist two family members, who were brought to safety by other people at the beach.

The force said the man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene and a file was being prepared for the coroner.
