Thirty jobs have been lost at an Aberdeenshire butcher after a buyer could not be found for the business.

It was announced in February that Donald Russell - an online butcher based in Inverurie - planned to close, putting 120 jobs at risk.

The firm, established in 1974, has said it faced "mounting challenges" in recent years, including volatile meat prices.

Talks to sell the Donald Russell brand and website are ongoing, with the remaining 90 roles at the firm still under threat.

The firm previously closed its cold storage distribution centre in Kintore last year, resulting in about 70 jobs losses.

A spokesperson for Donald Russell said: "Sadly, after exploring all possible alternatives, we were unable to find a buyer for our business as an ongoing concern.

"We are now in advanced talks to sell the brand and direct-to-consumer website, and a new 30-day consultation has begun."

"We are grateful to all our fantastic colleagues, who have maintained the highest standards throughout an incredibly difficult period."
