Crews tackle fire in North York Moors forest

A blaze has broken out in a forest in the North York Moors National Park, according to the fire service.

Five engines and specialist equipment are fighting the blaze in Wykeham Forest, seven miles (11km) from Scarborough, which has spread 20 x 20m (65 x 65ft) among trees, bushes and undergrowth.

The fire was first reported by a passing cyclist at about 11:41 BST.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service urged the public to avoid the area.

Wykeham Forest is a popular area for hiking and mountain biking, and has a raptor viewing point for birdwatching. It is managed by Forestry England.
