Son charged with murder of his 80-year-old father

A man has appeared in court charged with murdering his 80-year-old father.

Lawrence Robert Whayman, 55, of Alney Terrace, Gloucester, appeared before Cheltenham Magistrates' Court earlier accused of murdering Lawrence Joseph Whayman.

Gloucestershire Police said it was called to a house in Alney Terrace at about 21:00 BST on Thursday to a report a man had suffered suspected stab wounds. Lawrence Joseph Whayman was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Lawrence Robert Whayman appeared before Gloucestershire Magistrates' Court in Cheltenham via video link earlier and spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.

He is next set to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday was remanded into custody by presiding justice Peter Gray.

Gloucestershire Police said officers will remain at the scene throughout the weekend.
