Funding boost for repairs at miners' welfare centre
GoogleA miners' and community welfare scheme has received £32,000 in funding for vital roof repairs.
The grant for the centre in Brampton, Rotherham, was secured with the help of coal mining charity CISWO, and has contributed towards repairing the leaking roof, which had impacted the usability of the building.
Maureen Oliver, trustee at Cortonwood Miners' and Community Welfare Scheme, said the works had ensured the building remained "fit for the future".
She said: "The welfare plays a vital role in our community, and completing these works means we can continue welcoming local people into a warm, dry and safe space for many years to come."
According to CISWO, the grant is made up of £20,000 from The National Lottery Awards for All, £5,000 from the Four Winds Community Fund, £2,000 from The Earl Fitzwilliam Charitable Trust, and £5,000 from the Bernard Sunley Foundation.
CISWO said the repairs would help keep the centre warm, dry and safe, allowing community activities and sessions to continue throughout the year.
CISWO's chief executive Nicola Didlock said: "Cortonwood Miners' and Community Welfare Scheme is a valued community asset, and these improvements will help protect the building, improve comfort for users, and strengthen its long‑term sustainability."
