A serving councillor has been found not guilty of raping a child.

Ashley Sorensen, an independent councillor in Lancashire, had been charged with raping a girl under the age of 16 and seven counts of indecent assault against a girl under the age of 14.

The 56-year-old, who represents the Preesall ward on Wyre Council, pleaded not guilty to all charges at an earlier hearing.

Sorenson, of Thornton, was acquitted by a jury on Friday after a trial at Preston Crown Court.
