'Brave' workers battle in vain to save man in fire
Peter McNeillA man in his 80s has died in a house fire in Lincolnshire despite the "brave efforts" of nearby workers who tried to help, police have said.
Emergency services were called to Craypool Lane, in Scothern, at about 11:00 GMT on Monday.
Lincolnshire Police confirmed the death and said it was working with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire.
Insp Michael Head, of local policing for West Lindsey, said: "I would like to thank the local community and some workers who were in the area and who did everything they could to fight the fire. Despite their very brave efforts the fire had taken hold and there wasn't anything they could have done."
Six appliances, including an aerial ladder platform, attended the scene and roads in and out of the village were closed for a time from both the A15 and Nettleham approaches.
