Assault in city centre leaves man, 53, in hospital
BBCA man is being treated for a serious head injury after an assault in Hull city centre, police said.
Emergency services were called to Queen Victoria Square at about 03:40 BST and a 53-year-old man was taken to hospital.
Humberside Police said officers are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident and identify those involved, and are looking at CCTV from the area.
Police said a cordon remained in place on Carr Lane and said there would be an increased police presence in the area.
Det Insp Mark Hawley said: "I understand the concern this incident will cause within the community, and I would like to offer reassurance that a team of officers are carrying out extensive enquiries at pace.
"I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time, who has not already spoken to us, and may have witnessed the incident to please come forward."
Anyone with their own CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage is being urged to contact police.
