Thames Water reports seven-borough water outage

Around 6,000 properties across five south London boroughs and two Surrey boroughs are experiencing no water or low pressure due to a burst water main,Thames Water has said.

The company said its engineers were working to fix the burst main in West Molesey, after initially estimating that 15,000 homes may have been affected.

Earlier, the company said customers in postcode areas across Kingston upon Thames, Merton, Richmond upon Thames, Sutton and Wandsworth in London, as well as Elmbridge and Spelthorne in Surrey were impacted.

Thames Water apologised for the lack of water, adding: "Our specialist team is now on site and working to stop the water flooding from the broken pipe."

Thames Water said it had "rerouted water around the area", and customers in the Surbiton area should see their water return shortly, although with lower pressure than normal until the pipe is fixed.

"We believe up to 15,000 properties were affected this morning and that has now been reduced to 6,000," the company said.

"We again would like to say sorry to our customers and reassure those who are still affected that we are working to restore their water supply as quickly as possible.

"Unfortunately, owing to the location of the burst, it's likely to take some time to fix."

It added that bottled water would be delivered to customers registered as water-dependent on its Priority Services Register.

The organisation said the following postcodes may be affected: CR4, KT1, KT10, KT12, KT2, KT3, KT5, KT6, KT7, KT8, SM4, SW16, SW17, SW18, SW19, SW20, TW10, TW16.
