Two charged over fatal stabbing of 20-year-old man

Two men have been charged with murder in connection with the death of a man in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Staffordshire Police said Jamie Evans, 20, from Stone, died from a single stab wound on Friday evening.

Corey Hughes, 20, and Connor Edward Cartlidge, 22, have both been charged with murder. Hughes is also accused of possession of a knife in a public place, the force said.

A 19-year-old man, also from Newcastle-under-Lyme, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, has been released on conditional bail.

Hughes and Cartlidge remained in custody, it said, and are due to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Tuesday.

It comes after officers were called to Orme Road just after 17:00 on Friday by West Midlands Ambulance Service, who were responding to a collision involving a Ford Fiesta and a parked Audi.

The force said Evans, from Stone was the driver of the Ford and was found with a serious injury consistent with a stab wound,

It said it believed he suffered the stab wound before getting into the car.

Evans was taken to hospital but later died.

Update 8 September: An earlier version of this article stated that Connor Edward Cartlidge had been charged with possession of a knife in a public place. This article has been amended to remove this after clarification from Staffordshire Police.
