Festive lights are set to twinkle in four areas of Bournemouth this year after the town council approved funding.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council stopped funding Christmas lights in 2023 because of budget pressures.

Under a pilot project, Charminster, Kinson, Winton and Moordown will each get 20 columns of blue and white twinkling lights on their high streets.

The Bournemouth Town Council scheme will cost just under £56,000 and cover the new 80 light columns. It will be reviewed next year, with the possibility of extending it to other areas.

The town council said it hoped the lights could be left up year-round and used for other festivals, but this would need planning permission from BCP Council.

Bournemouth Town Council was created in April as a new third tier authority to manage hyper-local issues. Town council were also created for Broadstone and Poole.
