Man jailed for fake gun threat over garlic sauce

Watch: The moment man threatens chicken shop worker with fake gun

A man who pulled out a fake gun and threatened to shoot and kill a worker at a south London chicken shop after complaining about garlic sauce has been jailed for three years.

Marwan Khadir, 18, used a realistic imitation firearm in the attack - which lasted more than two minutes - on Christmas Eve last year.

He also physically assaulted the worker in the Penge High Street shop multiple times after discovering he had been given the wrong sauce with his food.

Khadir, of Malcolm Close, Penge, previously pleaded guilty to carrying a fake gun with intent to cause fear of violence, making threats to kill and assault. He was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on Tuesday.

In a video of the incident released by police, Khadir asked the employee "how many garlic sauces did you put in the bag?".

He then returned home and discovered the wrong sauces in the bag. Video showed Khadir pace around his flat and gesticulate while he complained about the order on the phone.

'I'm going to kill you now'

He then returned to the shop and shouted at the employee: "Bossman, come here.

"Why you give me four burger sauce? I asked for three garlic and three mayo."

He asked the worker to open the door of the counter and jumped on it before he was pushed back.

Khadir pulled out the fake gun, cocked the weapon and shouted: "I'm going to kill you now, are you mad?"

He was arrested on 2 January by armed police. Officers seized the replica gun he used in the attack, as well as fake ammunition.

Det Sgt Amy Cross, who led the investigation, paid tribute to the victim's courage in coming forward and later identifying Khadir.

"All our thoughts continue to remain with the victim of this terrifying ordeal, something no one should ever have to go through, let alone at their place of work," she said.

"The strength he has shown since the attack has been remarkable."
