Woman in her 60s dies in early-hours kitchen fire

A woman in her 60s has died after a fire broke out at in the kitchen of a flat in the early hours of the morning.

Firefighters from Basingstoke were sent to the blaze at the home in Glamis Close, Oakley, on Thursday at about 01:30 BST.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the woman was confirmed dead at the scene. The force said her death was being treated as unexplained and her next of kin had been notified.

A joint fire service and police investigation to establish the cause of the fire is under way.
