Trading standards officers have issued a warning about a toy after counterfeit versions have been sold in the UK.

Guernsey's Trading Standards Service has urged parents and carers to use trusted sources when buying Squishy Dumplings toys, which are soft and filled with gel.

Last week, the Office for Product Safety and Standards recalled a counterfeit version of the plastic dumpling after the UK regulator found the toy had contained an unsafe level of benzene, a carcinogenic chemical.

The Trading Standards Service said it was not aware of unsafe versions of the toy being sold in the Bailiwick but parents may come across them online or while travelling.

Trading standards officers recommended people buy the Squishy Dumplings toys only from trusted retailers or official brand websites and advised they apply extra caution when buying from online marketplaces or social media adverts.

They added: "If you think a toy in unsafe, stop your child using it straight away.

"Contact the shop or trader where it was bought and let them know.

"Traders in Guernsey must tell Trading Standards if they have sold an unsafe product."
