A driver is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash involving a marked police car and a third vehicle in East Ayrshire.

The collision happened on the A76 at Mauchline at about 14:40 on Friday.

A 56-year-old man who was driving a Seat Mii was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Two officers in the police car and another driver who was in a BYD Dolphin did not require hospital treatment.

Sgt Gordon Stewart, of Police Scotland, said: "I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the crash to contact us with any information.

"If anyone has dash-cam footage, please check it as it could have captured images which could assist our enquiries."
