The flats at 58 Frederick Street in Sunniside will be aimed at working professionals

Plans to convert a city centre Grade II listed building into apartments have been given the go-ahead.

Sunderland City Council's planning department approved an application to convert 58 Frederick Street in the Sunniside area into three flats which will be aimed at working professionals.

There were two applications in total from Lightfoot Property Developments, covering both the change in use to residential and listed building consent for associated works, including the reinstatement of some original features, new windows and cycle stores.

The change of use application was approved by the council earlier in April.

The applicants said the property was partly built in 1830 as part of a row of terrace houses, but was most recently used as officers and a commercial space.

Although initial plans proposed a traditional dormer to the front and rear roof slopes, the council's heritage and conservation department requested new dormers should be omitted from the scheme.

Sunderland City Council's planning department approved the listed building consent application in January, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Under planning conditions, the development must take place within three years and cycle storage facilities need to be in place prior to the occupation of any flats.
