A boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon

A teenager has been arrested after a pupil was injured in a knife attack at a school in Derby.

Police were called to Saint Benedict Catholic Voluntary Academy in Duffield Road, Darley Abbey, just before 14:40 BST on Tuesday.

Officers confirmed one pupil had suffered a minor wound to their leg, while a 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

The school said the situation was "dealt with swiftly and in line with our policy and procedures".

The teenager has been released on bail as investigations continue, police said.

Steve Brogan, acting head of Saint Benedict Catholic Voluntary Academy, said: "Derbyshire police attended school following an incident involving two students at the end of the lunch break yesterday.

"The situation was dealt with swiftly and in line with our policy and procedures.

"We take incidents of this nature very seriously and the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remains our highest priority at all times."
