Restaurant plans set to be refused for third time

A former seaside restaurant should not be converted into a holiday home, planning officials have ruled.

It was the third time the owners of Nude Dunes at La Pulente have tried to change the use of the building after the restaurant closed unexpectedly in November 2023.

Previous plans for the site in Jersey's St Ouen's Bay were rejected in 2024 and 2025 due to concerns about the potential impact on the landscape.

The latest proposal was to convert the building into a two-bedroom holiday let with a cafe attached, but a planning officer said it was essentially the same concept to previous versions and recommended it be refused.

In their report, the officer said planning policies supported economic development which would contribute to a sustainable island economy.

However, they concluded turning the site into a single unit of tourism accommodation would not generate enough employment.

"In addition, the proposals are not considered to protect or improve the character of the Coastal Protected Area and Coastal National Park," the officer added.

The proposal is set to be discussed by Jersey's Planning Committee on 17 September.
