A former warehouse in Leeds could be turned into a racket sports centre under plans submitted to the city council.

Indoor padel courts would be created at a former industrial unit at Dolly Lane in Burmantofts, if the local authority approves the scheme.

A pilates studio and bar are also part of plans for the vacant unit in the east Leeds suburb.

A design report said jobs would be created if the building was brought back into use.

It said: "The proposed change of use will generate new employment opportunities and bring vacant premises back into economic use, thereby maximising the site's contribution to the local economy.

"The proposals further represent an effective use of land and would deliver wider-ranging economic, social and community benefits."

Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK

The report said padel had become a fast-growing sport since being established in Mexico in 1969.

It said: "Based on key findings from the UK Padel Report 2025 , the number of UK padel courts increased from fewer than 40 in 2016 to 710 by the end of 2024."

The planning application is out for public consultation until 20 April, according to Local Democracy Reporting Service.
