A cat who ate 37 hair bands has been restored to full health by vets.

Bandit had been secretly opening drawers at his Milton Keynes home and eating the ties without his owner knowing.

Earlier this month the one-year-old was rushed to the vet, where veterinary surgeon Alina Tinson removed the objects from his stomach and intestines, including fragments of a plastic carrier bag.

She warned owners to be vigilant of everyday household items that could pose a hidden danger to pets.

Tinson, from Milton Keynes Vets for Pets, said: "We strongly encourage owners to keep small items out of reach, especially if your pet is showing consistent interest in them."

His owner Lewis added: "He's always enjoyed playing with things that aren't necessarily cat toys, but this was beyond anything I'd imagined.

"I'm just relieved he's on the mend and so grateful to everyone at the practice for looking after him."
