Man jailed for crash that killed friend

A man has been jailed for causing a crash that killed one of his friends.

Corey Brown, 20, was driving a stolen car while disqualified from driving along Newbury Lane in Oldbury in March, with two of his friends as passengers.

He overtook other vehicles on the wrong side of the road and travelled at speeds well above the 30mph limit, and eventually lost control of the car after clipping a bollard, causing the car to crash into three parked vehicles before hitting a lamppost and seriously injuring both passengers.

Brown was sentenced to 10 years in prison after admitting causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 3 July.

After the collision Brown fled the scene, leaving his two friends in the blue Ford Fiesta.

Kristian Danielov, 21, who was sat in the rear passenger seat, sustained serious injuries and died in hospital nine days later.

A second man, 19, sat in the front passenger seat, was also seriously injured during the collision.

Paying tribute to Danielov, his family said: "Kris was only 20 years old, with his whole life still ahead of him.

"He was full of energy, the life of any room he walked into, with a big heart and a personality nobody could ignore. He loved his family deeply, he was loved beyond words."

It added the family had "lost a piece of itself that can never be replaced, and we will carry our love for him forever".

Shortly after the crash Brown was arrested at his home on Albert Street in Lye.
