A shopping centre has launched a petition urging a local authority to replace outdated lifts in its car parks "for good".

The lifts at the Dolphin Shopping Centre car parks in Poole, Dorset, have been out of service since April and continue to break down even after repairs, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The petition has so far been signed 441 times and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council said it was exploring long-term solutions.

The Dolphin Centre said addressing the issue was "not only a matter of convenience but one of equality and respect for all community members".

It said: "Our community is at the heart of everything we do, and we take pride in listening to their thoughts and making sure everyone can enjoy the facilities our town offers.

"Sadly, without operational lifts at The Dolphin car parks, key demographics, including individuals with disabilities and parents with buggies, find it challenging or impossible to access the town centre.

"This is distressing for many residents and visitors, and we strongly believe it's time for a change."
