The crash happened on the A27 near Devil's Dyke on Saturday morning

A pedestrian who is understood to have fallen from a bridge above the A27 and was struck by a car has died, police said.

Emergency services were called to the road, near the Dyke Road roundabouts, in Hove, at about 09:15 BST on Saturday.

A 59-year-old local man died at the scene and his next of kin have been informed, Sussex Police said.

The A27 was closed in both directions for several hours, but has since reopened.

Sussex Police said there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and the man was understood to have fallen from a footbridge passing over the carriageway.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to contact Sussex Police.
