'Large cannabis farm' found in industrial unit
Nottinghamshire PoliceA 40-year-old man has been arrested at a "large cannabis farm" hidden inside an industrial premises in Newark, police said.
About 500 cannabis plants were found in a building in Northern Road shortly after 23:00 BST on Thursday, according to Nottinghamshire Police.
The cannabis crop was spread across multiple rooms, alongside heating, lighting and filtration equipment, all of which will now be destroyed.
The man, who was found inside the building, was arrested on suspicion of cultivating and supplying cannabis.
Sgt James Brown, of the Newark neighbourhood policing team, said: "The illicit production of cannabis is very often linked to violent and exploitative criminal gangs, both home and abroad, who think little of exploiting vulnerable people or using extreme violence to protect their investments.
"It also poses considerable dangers to neighbouring properties, not only from fire, but from associated criminality.
"That's why we take reports of this nature so seriously and why we are working so hard to target the people responsible."
