A Guernsey garden trail with handmade fairy doors has been disrupted, after a number of the doors were stolen.

Jewellers, Bruce Russell and Son, said they wanted to make a special hunt at Le Febis, St Martin where families and children can have a little adventure.

The handcrafted fairy doors are marked with different letters are hidden around the garden, with the idea being to find and spell out a word using the doors.

However, over the weekend three doors, the letters G, O and R, have been stolen from the site.

Co-owner Simon Russell said he hopes the doors are returned, otherwise they have no choice but to remove them all.

"We've got such a beautiful area up here and it was actually my daughter, well one of my daughters Susie, who decided to look into it and then it kind of gathered momentum.

"We decided to put a number of doors in which would spell out like a name, which people have to obviously find themselves.

"So it's been really popular so far."

'For the community'

The fairy door plaques are screwed into the trees so they would have had to be unscrewed or pulled out of the tree.

Russell said the trail was set up only two weeks ago and it has spoiled the hunt for people until they are returned.

"It's been so popular so far and we are hoping that whoever took them - they will find it in their hearts to just drop them back to us and obviously there'd be no questions asked.

"It's in the last week that it's happened I mean the doors have been up for two weeks and unfortunately last week three were taken.

"We did this for the community - you know you just think really 'why would you do that?'.

"We're trying to provide something for free for families and and then someone has to go and spoil it for people."
