M53 shut after man who got out of crashed car dies
PA MediaA motorway has been closed following the death of a man who got out of his car after a crash and was struck as he crossed the carriageway.
The man, in his 40s, was struck on the M53 in Wirral by a Toyota Yaris just before 03:30 BST on the northbound side at junction 4 in Clatterbridge, Merseyside Police said.
The force said his Skoda Fabia had earlier collided with the central reservation on the opposite southbound carriageway.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been informed. Police said the Toyota driver stopped.
The motorway has been closed in both direction between junctions 4 and 5 at Hooton in Cheshire, and police have warned of delays and road closures.
Det Sgt Andy Roper said: "My thoughts are with the man's family at this tragic time and specially trained officers are supporting them."
