Fire breaks out at former Debenhams store

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a former department store in Eastbourne.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to the former Debenhams building in Terminus Road, Eastbourne at 08:15 BST on Wednesday and extinguished the fire by 09:30.

All people at the scene were accounted for and no casualties have been reported, a fire service spokesperson said.

The fire was deemed to be accidental and was believed to have started in the substation in the basement, the fire service said.

South East Coast Ambulance Service and Sussex Police were also in attendance, and all crews left the scene by 10:50.
