Fundraiser launched after homes damaged in fire
Stephen Armstrong/GoFundMeNeighbours have begun a fundraising appeal after a fire left residents unable to return to their homes.
The fire broke out at two houses at Reed Court in Greenhithe on Tuesday and two further properties were affected by smoke. In total, three homes were evacuated and four people treated for smoke inhalation, Kent Fire and Rescue Service said.
Housing association Hyde Housing said residents were being supported with toiletries, clothes and vouchers as well as help to find alternative accommodation.
Stephen Armstrong, who set up a fundraising appeal for his neighbours, said fire "ripped through their home destroying all their prized possessions and family treasures".
KFRS said seven fire engines and a height vehicle were at the scene at the height of the blaze.
People who had to leave their homes were supported by the KFRS volunteer response team as well as the British Red Cross and Hyde Housing.
A Hyde Housing spokesman said the association would continue to support people at what was a difficult time.
He added: "We're working closely with the fire service to access the damaged homes.
"Our surveyors are making assessments alongside structural engineers and the local authority's building control team."
Dartford Borough Council said its building control team went to the scene to check for structural damage, but because the homes were housing association properties, it was not involved with rehousing people.
