Ready, Steady, Go!

The Ray Clark Breakfast Show has been celebrating the school sports day this week. We all had memories, good or otherwise, of the egg and spoon race or the slow bicycle race, so we decided to bring those happy school days back with our Sports Day.

On your marks, get set, go!

Tom was in charge, so our Sports Day was doomed from the start. Some hoped it would be cancelled because of poor weather.

But the sun was shining brightly on Thursday morning, when teams representing Breakfast (Alison, Claire and Ray), Sport (Roger), Online (Claire and Paul) and Head of Everything Else, Katie, took part in the three-legged dash and the egg and spoon race.

Left Left Right Right Left!

Sadly, like many major sporting events there were disqualifications: Paul and Claire became untied in the three-legged race, and I was accused of cheating. I consider fixing the egg to the spoon with 'blu-tack' shows forward thinking, and deserves reward!

Taxi!

Every year on the first Wednesday in July, Maldon High Street is the place to be if you're looking for a taxi, but these are certainly not for hire.

Now in it's 47th year, more than 100 black cabs bring disadvantaged children from London down to Maldon for an afternoon on the Prom and tea at The Plume School.

You can never find a taxi ...

It's a lovely sight to see, and certainly brings the place to a standstill, as the taxis drive in to be met by flag waving locals.

Lick that!

Tom gets all the good jobs - including working on an ice cream van...

He writes: "Come and get your ice-cream... the only problem is, hardly anyone did!

"There was little old me hanging about with an ice cream van offering free ice creams for breakfast on the hottest day of the year so far, but I only managed to give away two!

"Admittedly I wasn't in the best location and I only saw three people in total (and one of them was allergic to ice cream). But the good news was the the Ice Cream people were lovely and they even let me have a go at making a Mr Whippy.

"As for having ice cream for breakfast, I still think it's a great idea!

"I'm off for a lie down, it's my birthday next week and Ray Clark keeps making hushed phone calls and whispering to people. I'm very concerned!"

Where is Where in Essex?

As they say on the television, 'that's the end of the present series, but it will be back... probably.'

We've used more than 200 clues for most towns and villages in Essex, and apart from a few hamlets, like Buttocks End (made up name), we've been everywhere. So, for the time being - it's resting.

The Story 'wot u' write

Here come the boys, Trevor, Michael and Paul, plus the girls Anne and the story Lady, who all contributed to this weeks story.
