Producer Claire with 'life-size Ray'

Producer Claire's new pin-up!

Fossils, scary trees, rain and snow

Old fossils, no not the subject of this old lifesize poster of me used to advertise another radio station from an earlier time in my life, but another exciting find in Essex features in this week's Ray Clark Breakfast Show Blog. Read on.

Old Fossils

Have you ever taken a walk alongside the crumbling cliffs at Walton-on-the-Naze? Planet Ray listeners Penny and her friend Anne were enjoying a refreshing stroll last weekend and found, what could be, the remains of... well, maybe a prehistoric dinosaur!

So what lies beyond this point?

What is it? Can you help?

The Lion Tree

I discovered a book, written in 1904, about the Essex marshes and it would appear that 100-years-ago much of the county could be described as marshland. It featured Beeleigh, near Maldon, and made mention of The Lion Tree - a favourite haunt for children all those years ago.

The Beeleigh Lion Tree

"What's that 'lion' there?

I took a nice stroll around Beeleigh with Planet Ray listener Ed Joslin - he knows all there is to know about Beeleigh - well almost all!

'Rayne' and snow

With the spring-like weather this week, it seems hard to imagine that just two-weeks-ago many roads in our county were impassable following the heavy rain.

Jamie-Lee and her school flood project

Jamie-Lee reigns in the rain in Rayne!

You might remember hearing the head teacher from Rayne Primary School struggling to get through the flood waters and making the decision to close his school, live on The Ray Clark Breakfast Show.

The children from Rayne didn't get away with a complete day free of learning, though. They were set the task of writing about the floods and taking photographs.

A competition for the best work was won by Jamie-Lee, who wrote a complete project about the waters and even made her own measuring stick.

Winners of 'name the gritter' competition

True Gritters

Children all over the county were asked to name the county's yellow gritter trucks. The winners, four of them from across the county, met up with the gritters and their drivers at Westlands Primary School.

Look out for Salty, Snow Buster, Salt Shaker and Master Grit - I can't wait for it to snow again.

The story 'wot you write'

Cracking story this week, written by Ray Clark Breakfast Show listener Jenny Dale from South Woodham Ferrers. This spooky tale is based on a true-ish story. What about you writing a story for the future?
