'Flying@ Reindeer in Chappel, North Essex

Santa's Aiming High

Aiming High

What a week on Planet Ray. Following numerous reports of Father Christmas sightings around Chapel, we sent our girl around the county, Natalie, to track him down.

Is it a bird, is it a plane..?

No, it's Santa, and he's flying high over the premises of Roger Hughes and his son Ben's company, Chappel Plant Sales, near Colchester.

"After a fortnight of practice against Ben 'Deep Fat' Fryer, the step-up in class was too much for Rocky and Jaws won the 'Checkout Challenge'"

Ben Fryer reports on the warm-up for the World Darts Championship

Natalie went to take a closer look at the illuminated sleigh, supported by a 100-foot high crane towering alongside the A1124 from Halstead to Stanway.

Look out for him on your travels.

More Santa News

Ray Clark Breakfast Show listener Ron knows about space issues (planets not spare rooms) and he reports that Father Christmas can be seen in the skies over Essex, subject to cloud cover, on his way back to the North Pole on Christmas morning between 07.23 and 07.29.

It's quite a coincidence that the International Space Station will also be passing overhead at the same time, and in the same direction - West to East. Look out for a bright light.

One hundred and eighty

Guest Blog writer and ace sports man Ben 'Full Fat' Fryer joins us:

Colin Lloyd and Ray

Now if I'd had more expensive darts ...

"A lot can happen in two weeks!

"After making a throwaway comment during a sports bulletin about how great it'd be to have a dartboard in the studio, Patrick in Maldon provided us with one.

Darts Champion Colin Lloyd

Darts Champ Colin takes aim

"A fortnight later, and a former World Number One accepted Ray's challenge for a darts match live on air!

"Ahead of his appearance at the World Darts Championship, Chelmsford's Colin 'Jaws' Lloyd, took on 'Rocky' Ray Clark in the first ever PRAT Darts contest (Planet Ray's Affiliated Tournament of Darts).

Ray playing Darts

Ray, a close second against the champ!

"Darts is all glitz and glamour nowadays and each player has their own music. Colin Lloyd enters the stage to a track called 'Monster' by Automatic and, after some thought, I felt Ray should enter to 'Tragedy' by Steps!

"After a fortnight of practice against Ben 'Deep Fat' Fryer, the step-up in class was too much for Rocky, and Jaws won the 'Checkout Challenge'.

"Ray retired from dancing after Dancer's in Need, what now for his future in Darts? Watch this space!"

This week's story comes from John in Arlesford and additions from The Story Lady.

Planet Ray Rules OK

Why not write for the 'Breakfast Serial' in 2009?

Happy Christmas to all our readers - and listeners

The team on The Ray Clark Breakfast Show - Ray, Alison, Claire, Ben, Natalie and Telephone Stu, plus the other occasional Planet Ray members, Ian, Richard, Nick and Telephone Mark would like to say "Thank you very much for all the Christmas Cards and greetings - and for listening."

And thanks to Planet Ray listener, Gordon, for his latest cartoon...

Happy Christmas!
