Lee Clark resigned as Hartlepool manager after the 3-1 home defeat by Worthing.

"You're getting sacked in the morning" rang around the stadium after Ricky Aguiar scored the visitors' second goal as pre-season optimism for a promotion push dwindled further following a sixth defeat of the campaign.

Clark announced his decision to step down in his post-match press conference, with a short club statement confirming the news.

Pools striker Will Harris brought a smart save from goalkeeper Taylor Seymour with a strong header in the 10th minute, but it was Worthing who took the lead in the 35th minute when Cory Adjetey-Brew headed home Aguiar's cross.

Harris slammed an effort against the crossbar after 57 minutes and soon after it was 2-0 to the visitors, with Aguiar volleying the loose ball home after Razzaq Coleman's initial shot had been blocked.

Harris pulled one back in the 77th minute after he was gifted the ball by Seymour, but Worthing added a third in stoppage time through Jose Marquez' header.
