  1. Scunthorpe sign ex-Macclesfield striker Gale published at 17:09 BST 1 July

    Scunthorpe United have signed striker James Gale following his departure from National League North Macclesfield Town.

    The 24-year-old scored eight goals in 24 matches towards the end of 2025-2026 to help the Silkmen reach the play-offs.

    He spent the first six months of last season playing for Altrincham in the National League, scoring five goals in 24 appearances, including one in the FA Cup.

    Scunthorpe United have re-signed midfielder Jacob Butterfield on a player-coach deal.

    The 36-year-old returns to the Iron after turning down a new contract with National League rivals Gateshead.

    Butterfield scored 12 goals in 89 games for Scunthorpe between 2022 and 2024 before leaving for the Heed.

    The Glanford Park side have not disclosed the length of deal the former Barnsley, Huddersfield Town and Derby County man has signed.

    Scunthorpe United have signed attacker Kyle Hurst on a permanent deal after he left League One club Doncaster Rovers.

    The 24-year-old joined the Iron on loan in January and made five National League appearances before suffering an injury that kept him out for the remainder of the season.

    Hurst scored 16 goals in 108 games in all competitions during a four-year spell at Doncaster, where his contract expired this summer.

    He also spent six months on loan at Gateshead in the first half of the 2025-26 campaign, scoring four goals in 31 appearances.

    Scunthorpe United have re-signed Reagan Ogle on a one-year contract from Oldham Athletic.

    Ogle spent two years with Oldham and helped them win promotion out of the National League in 2025.

    But the Australian defender, 27, now returns to Scunthorpe, having played 77 games for them in the two seasons before that.

    Ogle is the Iron's fourth summer signing as they try to better last season's fifth place in the National League.

    Scunthorpe United have signed defender Callum Howe on a two-year deal.

    The 32-year-old captained York to promotion from the National League last season but turned down the offer of a new contract with the Minstermen.

    He started his career in the Iron's academy and the move will see him play alongside younger brother Declan.

    Meanwhile, goalkeeper Maison Campbell, 22, has signed a new one-year deal with Andy Butler's side.

    Scunthorpe United have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Jordan Richards when his contract with Boston United expires on 1 July.

    The 28-year-old, who began his career at Notts County, has signed a two-year deal with the Iron.

    Richards was voted Boston's player of the year in April and made a total of 165 appearances for the club.

    Scunthorpe United defender Ross Barrows has extended his contract until the end of 2026-27.

    The 28-year-old made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Iron last season.

    He is the second player to extend his stay with the Glanford Park side this week after goalkeeper Louis Jones, 27, signed a new two-year deal on Wednesday.

    Scunthorpe United have signed winger Luke Brennan on a three-year contract from National League North side Buxton for an undisclosed fee.

    The 24-year-old came through Blackburn Rovers' youth setup and subsequently joined Wigan Athletic in 2022.

    Having spent time on loan with Welsh side The New Saints and AFC Fylde, he then went on to join Buxton where he made a total of 85 appearances.

    Scunthorpe United defender Will Evans has signed a new one-year contract with the National League club.

    The 34-year-old joined three years ago from Boreham Wood and helped the Iron to promotion from National League North last term.

    He played 33 times in all competitions this season as Scunthorpe reached the National League play-offs, losing to Rochdale.

    His previous clubs include Hereford United, Eastleigh, Aldershot Town and Chesterfield.

    Club captain Andrew Boyce heads a list of six players who are set to leave Scunthorpe United.

    Boyce, 36, has played 193 games for the Iron across three spells, including 40 games in the promotion season from National League North 12 months ago.

    Also departing this summer are Mark Beck, Max Brogan, Joey Dawson, Jonathan Gjoshe and Kian Scales.

    Having finished fifth in the National League this season before losing to Rochdale in the play-off semi-final, Scunthorpe are in negotiations with seven other players over their futures at the club.

  11. Scunthorpe midfielder Rowley signs two-year dealpublished at 19:00 BST 9 April

    Scunthorpe United midfielder Joe Rowley has signed a two-year contract extension to remain with the National League club.

    The 26-year-old joined the Iron on a two-year deal in 2024 after leaving AFC Fylde and helped them win promotion to the fifth tier.

    He has made 44 appearances in all competitions this term and will remain with the club until the end of 2027-28.
