A heck of a story about sandwiches resulted in so many calls, e-mails and texts. I also took a ride around our coast - with the coastguard. Plus, I am now officially a patron! Patron Ray ClarkI've been asked by the Burnham branch of the RNLI to be the patron for the appeal to raise money to pay for a new floating boathouse for their new lifeboat - due on station in a couple of years. How cool is that? So now I've got to think of ways to raise the money. Before accepting their kind invitation I asked a friend what a patron has to do. "Don't really know, but you'll always get a parking space at the pub." Patrons only! The story started here on The Ray Clark Breakfast Show when Sue, one of the volunteers, came to us with her concerns. By Friday it had made the national papers. ![]() Ray getting ideas above his station On the coastFollowing on from my recent search for the most remote place in Essex and the cycle ride to Holliwell Point, Planet Ray had a call from the station officer in charge at Bradwell Coastguard Rescue Team - Dick Townshend. Dick has spent his working life guarding the coast and he offered to take me around the coast of the Dengie Peninsula - in comfort. We went armed with 'snake sticks', those adders really like long grass, hot sunshine and quiet remote spots. Those snake sticks also double as ski poles in the winter. Carol is a teacher at Langenhoe Community Primary School in Abberton. "It struck me that the best views I experience are once I'm actually at work, although I seldom have time to gaze out of the window," says Carol, the teacher for Class 3.
