Old Essex roadsign

This way to the starting grid

Get on your soap box

The Ray Clark Breakfast Show came to the rescue of Pebmarsh this week. It's a lovely little village in the north of the county and for the last few years they've held a 'Soap-box Grand Prix'. But officialdom threatened to get in the way...

All systems go

Nearly £1000. That was the figure the Pebmarsh Grand Prix organising team thought they'd have to spend just to get official permission to hold this year's event on 4, July.

"If we have to spend this much we'll have no money left to give away to local charities," Roger Cuthbert, one of the organisers, told me.

Enter Planet Ray. We spoke to the council and they said "OK, it's a fair cop... " or words to that effect. Consequently, the road closure will go ahead and go-cart grand prix racing will return to Pebmarsh this year.

If the county council are prepared to waive the fees, then I'm more than happy to wave the chequered flag. See you in Pebmarsh on 4, July.

All the President's men - and women

An exciting week in Essex as the President of the USA dropped into Stansted.

Black limo at Boreham interchange

Probably not the President, but it looks official

The Ray Clark Breakfast Show team were on the case as Air Force One took off on Friday morning. Various Planet Ray listeners reported sightings of the Presidential Cavalcade on M11.

Former Planet Ray man, Tom Warmington-on-Sea (now helping TV's Blue Peter team), claimed to have seen one of the vehicles on Thursday evening at the Boreham Interchange.

He even took a photograph on his mobile phone... but he was too slow and we nearly ended up with just the Vauxhall Chevette following behind.

Jo Taylor

Jo 'does news' and smiles too!

A new 'Voice of The News'

Planet Ray listener, Tony from the Fire Station, stopped me as I was walking in the 'Soon to be breakaway Republic of The Dengie Penninsula' to ask about Jo Taylor, this week's 'voice of the news' on The Ray Clark Breakfast Show.

"She sounds very nice," he said. "She is," I said, "And in her spare time she was a synchronised swimmer."

Ben Fryer

Ben Fryer, good bloke - but hasn't got Jo's looks!

"And what about Ben Fryer, your sports man" Tony asked.

I don't know if Ben can swim, or if he does, whether he wears a swimming cap or a peg on his nose. But one thing is certain, he's not such a glamorous dresser as Jo!

The story you help to write

Phil and The Story Lady wrote this week's story. Why don't you get writing for another week.
