Natalie and bowling champ Dom Barrett

On the road with Planet Ray

The Ray Clark Breakfast Show has zapped around the county this week. More to the point, our reporter Natalie has been clocking up the miles. She's been visiting stag beetles in Fingringhoe and showing off her bowling skills in Walton-on-the-Naze.

Strike

Planet Ray listener Robin has been a regular at Walton bowl on the pier for many years. He told us about Dom Barrett who is a professional ten-pin bowler, bowling in competitions all over the world.

So we sent Nats off to meet him and admire his bowling skills.

Nats was in Walton on Thursday morning and blamed her once broken finger for the ball bouncing into the gully and missing the pins entirely when she attempted a strike...

It's The Beetles

The Essex Wildlife Trust are building pyramids at the Fingringhoe Wick visitor centre. So, who would live in a house like this? Why, a stag beetle of course.

Nats got down with nature, but was running scared with the knowledge that there were adders around, although I don't think she was too keen on the stag beetles either.

However, there was a dog that was certainly keen on Nats - making his presence known during the interview.

On your marks...

Saturday, 4, July is getting closer, and work is progressing on our entry to the Pebmarsh Billy Cart Grand Prix.

Engineer John constructs BBC Essex 'Billy cart'

Work is progress on our entry

As we reported last week, we have a team of highly skilled engineers on the case, led by John who is also a karate expert and plays the saxophone - though not while he's welding.

Make a note in your diary for a visit to Pebmarsh to cheer on our cart, piloted by Telephone Stu.

Excessive expenses

Much has been said this week about MP's expenses, we've had more e-mails, calls and texts on this topic than you would believe. Being an allotment man (although temporarily without an allotment) I was interested to hear of one local MP who regularly spends £249 on his garden.

I went to a garden centre with BBC Essex colleague Ian Puckey to check out just what you could buy for £249.

Essex Scrabble

Our idea of Essex scrabble is catching on slowly, why not join in?

It's on our Facebook site - we'd love to be your friend.

The story 'wot you write'

A great story this week, written by Marie from Sible Hedingham. And what timing, the story was about her childhood memories - and fact met fiction on Thursday when Marie became a granny herself - Knit on Nan!

You can write a story too:
