Summer's here on Planet Ray

Summer's here and the time is right for... cycling, gardening and eating strawberries. And that's just the start. The Ray Clark Breakfast Show has been getting plenty of fresh air this week and with good weather forecast maybe you should do the same!

Nicholas Crane

Nick had no need for his brolly at Hanningfield

Re: Cycling

I'm always rattling on about how great our county is for walking and cycling - and now others are agreeing.

On Tuesday I went to Hanningfield Reservoir, where the county's tourism people launched their campaign telling us to get out and about around Essex. There's a great set of maps available covering most parts of the county.

Nicholas Crane, the presenter of Coast, was there on his bike, and he's certainly a fan of the Essex countryside.

Post-dug allotment

Can you dig it? I can. And did.

The return of allotment man

Into the second week of the new allotment and after cutting down the undergrowth and battling tigers and crocodiles in this remote spot on the Breakaway Republic of The Dengie Hundred (joking), it's time for some digging.

My racing fork has had smoke coming from it - I'm working so fast that at this rate I'll be eating next year's strawberries in November.

Picking strawberries

Let me take you down, where I'm going to...

Talking of Strawberries

It's the very best time of the year to eat English strawberries.

The annual strawberry race was held earlier this week in 'Strawberry Land' (otherwise known as Tiptree) which is pretty close to Planet Ray. Get drooling...

A mammoth battle

We featured the dinosaur last year on the blog - but now this friendly giant of a tree in Ulting, near Maldon, is taking on a fearsome witch - welcome to Planet Ray!!!

'Dinosaur-shaped' tree and 'witch-shaped' tree

'Dinosaur' tree takes on 'witch' tree (honestly!)

If you've got any pictures of similar plants and trees we'd love to see them.

The story 'wot' you write

A bit of a mystery this week, written by Planet Ray listener Michael. Why don't you get writing?

You can join the Ray Clark Breakfast Show Facebook site and be our friend.
