Writing about taste and the senses
BRYAN - One of the tastes, one of the senses, of course, is taste and those hands that are scented with cumin and coriander, which is a beautiful line. Why did you want to write about food? Why is that important?
NADINE - So one of my strongest associations is of my aunt cooking with fresh coriander. And when you chop fresh coriander, the smell, it becomes alive. And so it’s more than simply, you know, I say she’s a gardener in the kitchen, and it’s more than simply the act of cooking, but it’s the act of nourishment of of growing, of life, actually, that comes from that. And I think in most families, recipes can often be passed down, and that’s a way of staying connected to them. And that’s something that is living too much like a garden.
