Distilling big ideas into a poem
When I think of poetry, I think that in some ways in our shortness is such a strength because you are getting all of the big things distilled into one, so you can have all of the big moments, or you can write a poem that’s just about one, one moment in time, but that actually speaks to so much more. Depending on how you layer the imagery, how you layer the language. And so something I love about poetry is that you you are capturing everything in a, in a small moment, and so that the reader only needs to take a short time with it, but they get it. And for me, approaching putting the character of Auntie into Auntie was just about trying to channel that love and that experience, actually, of her, of writing from the personal and hoping that that translates to to the reader.
