Hearts started their SWPL title defence with a resounding victory over Aberdeen.

With new manager Andy Thomson in the home dug out, the Edinburgh side got off the mark quickly as Carly Johns pounced on a mistake at the back from Aberdeen.

A minute later they were 2-0 up, as new signing Mariana Speckmaier, rounded the keeper and finished off.

Hearts dominated the first half, and as the break approached they added another as Ellen Dolan headed in with power.

The home side's dominance continued, and soon they were 4-0 up through Jenny Smith who returned to Hearts this summer after three seasons with Celtic.

Ava Crawford, 16, marked her first professional contract with Hearts with a first senior goal before Speckmaier grabbed her second to round off a great afternoon for the defending champions.
