Promoted Spartans earned a deserved draw against Partick Thistle in their first SWPL game of the new season.

After running out to a guard of honour from the visitors, the SWPL 2 champions kept it goalless up until the break, with goalkeeper Alicia Yates pulling off a couple of top saves.

Spartans were better in the second half but it was Thistle who went ahead when Sophie Townsley, on loan from Rangers, curled in a fabulous free-kick from the edge of the box.

But Spartans were creating chances in the second half and it paid off as Tanna Hollis equalised with nine minutes left to play for her first league goal for Spartans against the side she joined them from this summer.

Both sides had chances to win the game, Yates tipped a free kick over the bar, while Freya Brien missed a glorious chance at the other end.
