Beautiful butterfly

I'm happy to share my world with this

Straw bales, cricket bails and butterfly... scales!

Summer is here, and welcome to the Ray Clark Breakfast Show blog. Planet Ray is due to take a rest in my back garden for the next weeks, soaking up the sun in the Breakaway Republic of the Dengie Hundred, so it's sunny stories all the way.

Beautiful butterfly bonanza

I think we've had a lovely spring and early summer - it's still to be seen how the weather treats us throughout the holiday period.

But have you noticed just how many butterflies there are hovering around the county? It's good news for anyone with a camera as they love to show themselves off.

Lifeboat rescues crew

Rescue on the cricket pitch

High winds stop play

Well, it was billed as the match of the century - forget The Ashes. This was the off-shore cricket match between the RNLI crews from Burnham-on-Crouch and West Mersea, scheduled to take place on Buxey Sands, off the Essex coast.

The winds were gusting up to force seven from the south-west, which would have made the journey back to dry land very uncomfortable, particularly for the boatloads of spectators that were going out to cheer their team on.

The decision to postpone was obviously the right one as Burnham's crew were called out to the sands later in the day to rescue a crew in distress.

Straw bales

How high will they go before they fall?

Is this how they built Stonehenge?

Harvest time is here - a sure sign of summer. Despite the showers over the past two weeks the fields are still looking golden.

It's also the time to spot engineering excellence in straw. I wonder though, if Stonehenge would have been easier to build in straw... now there's an idea.

Listener Deb looking for work

Hope Debi gets the job

First in the queue for a job

Planet Ray listener Debi Wendes from Chelmsford is looking for a job, and she doesn't mind who knows.

We spoke to her last week on the morning that she appeared in the national newspapers.

She visited BBC Essex, complete with the board advertising her qualifications. Good luck with the job search Debi.

Who nicked our picnic?

Months, that's how long I'd been waiting for our Planet Ray team summer picnic, and just because the weather looked a little bit dodgy our plans for a visit to the park were abandoned.

Telephone Stu and Ben Fryer - looking sad!

A virtual indoor picnic!

I was alone in voting to sit in the drizzle with a damp sausage roll. Instead we had a virtual picnic - in the meeting room!

Bring back the sunshine.

The story 'wot' you write

Julia brings a sad old bus back to life, and don't forget, I'm always on the lookout for a good story, so get writing.
