Star of the Fringe Jason Wood refuses to let one bad review get in the way. When we asked what advice they would give the first time Fringe goer, so many stars of the Fringe said 'take a chance' and 'don't read the reviews'.
Many punters don't. But reviews still seem to matter. Especially to performers.
As comic Stephen Grant found out, even good reviews can have a down side. "Last year, I got a 5 star review from The List just 4 days before the end of the festival," he told us. "A bit sooner would be lovely!"
Fellow comic Jason Wood has taken a one star review to the extreme. Having reviewed his otherwise four star show, Kate Copstick awarded the singing, joke-cracking entertainer a one star review. She stated that his musical impressions were unrealistic.
Turning this around Jason has emblazoned this across his posters, using 'A STAR' as his best quote. Others who have seen the show, The Sun, The Express, Scotsgay Magazine, BBC Radio 5 Live, raved about it.
Given that many performers put months of hard graft and thousands of pounds of their own money into the shows they present, bad press often seems pointlessly harsh. Jason has to be admired for not letting it spoil his festival.
