Funny Women Winner Zoe Lyons Heads to Fringe

Zoe won the 2004 Funny Women stand up competiton and is in the semifinal of So You Think You're Funny.

Zoe Lyons wins Funny WomenCould Zoe Lyons make it two out of two? We asked her about her recent Funny Women win and about heading up to Edinburgh to perform.

What's next for you after your recent win?

I will be taking part in the So You Think You're Funny semifinal at the Guiled Balloon on the 9th Aug and as part of the Funny Women at the Fringe on the 27th and 28th Aug (at the Underbelly). Hope to blag myself some more gigs whilst I am up there!

Have you been to Edinburgh before? Is it hard work?

Zoe Lyons wins Funny WomenI have done a two woman show before at Edinburgh and there is a lot of work involved before you go and then you don't stop for the whole month you are there, particularly if you are doing your own publicity. Pounding the streets each day handing out flyers to get those bums on seats. That side of things can become a chore, but on the whole it is great fun and you meet some brilliant people.

What will you be doing with the other 23 hrs of the day?

See as many shows as possible and take full advantage of the late opening hours.

What's the best thing you've ever seen on the fringe?

Two years ago I saw a Russian physical theatre group at the big top, it was mind blowing, I had tears in my eyes at the end of the show.

What's the worst thing you've seen?

I have seen quite a few things that that have left me with tears in my eyes.. but for all the wrong reasons!

What's the most curious thing that's happened to you in Edinburgh?

Weird and wonderful things are always occurring in Edinburgh... I've had many a curious evening in Edinburgh, I just cant piece them together now in my mind... personally I blame the late opening hours!

If the Edinburgh fairy could grant your wish, what would your wish for?

I wish to have fun, do well and enjoy, also if she could have a word with mother nature and bring us some sunshine that would be just fine.

What advice do you have for first time Edinburgh punters?

Plan well, eat well, soft shoes a must and do bring a anorak!
