Wear and Tear

Steve has an early morning and a late night but the Flight of the Conchords keep him going...

Ouch. I fell off the wagon last night, and think I must have bashed my head when I landed.

OK, admittedly I was never that securely on the wagon in the first place, but until now I'd been careful not to drink before the end of each comedy-packed day, and ensured I was tucked up by 3am, early by Edinburgh standards.

Pretty much everyone here was similarly cautious, concerned about getting their shows in shape and working hard to get an audience. But yesterday was the one day many of the comics have off, a quiet Monday to relax. And when the comedy world relaxes, drink is probably involved.

Yesterday, it all started ridiculously early, at the launch of the BBC New Comedy Awards at 4pm, and ended hideously late, at the Pod Deco's raucous party at 5.30am, dancing badly alongside the likes of Flight Of The Conchords, Andrew Maxwell and Richard Herring.

Flight of the Conchords

Not the 13-hour drinking binge it looks like on paper, there was still work to be done and shows to be seen in between the start and finished, but it means my self-imposed curfew has been breached, and things can only get messier from here on in.

There's another launch do at lunchtime today, the day off for the other half of the comedy shows. I'm hoping it might be a little more sedate than yesterday, but not holding out much hope. It's sponsored by Loaded magazine.
