...and that's because Scottie Scheffler has drained his 11-footer on the 16th to get to 16 under and that gives him a two-shot lead over Viktor Hovland.

While Chris Gotterup is struggling with the pressure down the stretch, Viktor Hovland is suddenly loving it.

His tee shot to the par-three 15th is right on line. His ball bounces on the green and trundles up to about 12 feet. He's going to have a great chance to get to 15 under and he might just need to do that...

Is Chris Gotterup running out of steam, or just feeling the heat of playing alongside a purring Scottie Scheffler?

The three-time winner on the PGA Tour this year is in the rough off the 16th tee and can't make the green in two. His third, from 45 yards is bang average and he'll have an 18-footer to avoid dropping another shot.

...you may want to know that Scottie Scheffler is in a fairway bunker off the tee on the 16th...

...but as I'm writing that, he pings his ball from the sand into the heart of the green to leave himself an 11-footer for birdie.

Ryan Gerard has had several birdie chances today but his putter has been stone cold. Another one goes begging on the 14th, his ball dying away to the right.

That par will feel like a bogey.

But Viktor Hovland's par may well feel like a birdie. Big saver there. He stays one back. Bubbling up nicely.

It's very much now or never for the Australian who went round in five under on Saturday.

Over on the 15th, Chris Gotterup nudges his ball from the rough up the green but he's not given that anywhere near enough and his ball pulls up 15 feet short.

Here's Scottie Scheffler looking to turn the screw from 17 feet. Oh wow. His ball grazes the right edge. Par.

Will Gotterup follow him in? No! Another timid putt and that bogey could end his hopes.

Viktor Hovland finds himself on the rough down the right of the 14th fairway and gouges another shot out of the thick stuff. A cameraman up by the green searches in vain for his ball. We wait to find out where that's gone.

Meanwhile, Ryan Gerard, from the more easy to play from first cut, finds the green, 30 feet from the hole.

The reason we couldn't see Viktor's ball is because it landed a good 90 yards short of the hole. But the Norwegian has a chance of saving par after nose-diving his wedge to four feet.

Rory McIlroy shakes his head as he rattles a birdie putt in from 23 feet. A couple of those on the front nine might have meant he was still right in this heading down the final two holes.

Instead there's a look of resignation that it's just just come too late to have any sort of impact with him four shots adrift of the leader Scottie Scheffler.

The 218-yard par-three 15th plays over water to a peninsula green.

Chris Gotterup is first up and his ball barely covers the pond. His ball is on dry land but only just, a collar of rough stopping it from retreating to a watery grave.

Scottie Scheffler is on it here though. A bullet of a tee shot lands in the heart of the green and releases up to the hole. It's not quite as good as his shot to the second which left a one-inch tap-in birdie but I'm sure he'd take a 17-footer right now.

Viktor Hovland splashes out of the bunker on 13 to 15 feet.

He's walking after the par putt, he thinks he's got out of jail here. But no, it dives left at the death and stays up.

Shot gone and he trails Scheffler by one. Again.

It’s three consecutive pars for Rory McIlroy now. The charge has not materialised and the Northern Irishman is running out of holes to make up ground.

Any frustrations he may feel will surely be shared by Cam Young who follows a bogey on the 14th with one on the 15th, to pretty much torpedo any hopes he had of victory.

Here's Scottie from short and left of the 14th green. He flicks a wedge but that's a 6/10 effort by his standards, coming up eight feet short.

And the American races his par putt a little. A shot going here.

Will Chris Gotterup effect a two-shot swing? No! A bit more juice on the putt and it would have held its line and dropped. Just a par.

Viktor Hovland is deep in conversation with his caddie as they work out what kind of shot to play next.

Hovland says it's not a great lie and he might have to get steep on it. His caddie says long is better than short.

Eventually the club is selected and Hovland does come up short. It's in the sand.

Ryan Gerard from the fairway takes the front trouble out of the equation and lands his ball on the back of the green, 25 feet over the flag.

A frustrated grumble from the mouth of Viktor Hovland after he finds the rough off the tee on the 13th. It's classic PGA Tour rough, thick and deep with balls settling in the bottom of it.

All about the lie as to whether he can go chasing the green with his second shot.

Scottie Scheffler's driving has been a little erratic today and from the rough on the 14th he can only bail out short and left of the green.

Chris Gotterup meanwhile, after a 360+ yard drive, fires his second in to about eight feet. Could he make a late charge to join the party?

Right then Viktor, back to you... he's on the 12th in two and has a 15-footer to get back on level terms.

It's got a big left-to-right swing and Viktor doesn't borrow enough, or get the pace right. Par.

A 10th in 12 holes. This is a solid if unspectacular round.

Both Chris Gotterup and Scottie Scheffler are studying birdie putts on the 13th green.

Chris is first up and he gives his uphill 15-footer a proper rattle. Too much in fact as his ball clips the right edge and stays up.

Scheffler is looking at a left-to-righter to take the lead... he sets his ball off on the left edge and it bends into cup.

Solid from Ryan Gerard who barely touches the back of his ball to set it on its way towards the hole. It's got a dozen feet to travel and drops in the front left corner.

Hovland nudges in for his three too.
