QPR and Bolton remain unbeaten after winning their Championship openers last weekend
Queens Park Rangers were left to rue a glut of missed chances as they were held by a resolute Bolton Wanderers side at Loftus Road.
Both sides had won their Championship openers last weekend and it was the hosts who started strongest.
Chances came and went for Harvey Vale and Richard Kone in a first half in which the hosts had six efforts on target, but Julien Stephan's side found Bolton goalkeeper Jack Bonham in inspired form.
Bonham denied Ilias Chair and Vale again after the break as the visitors left west London with a deserved point.
QPR's 17 shots, with nine on target, compared to only two for the away side - who did not register an effort on Pierce Charles' goal.
The frustration will be most acutely felt by Kone and Vale, who were each denied by Bonham on four occasions.
In a bid to break the deadlock, Stephan made a quadruple change - including debuts for summer signings Dennis Cirkin and Tariq Lamptey - but there was no way through.
While QPR were left with regrets, Steven Schumacher's Bolton, promoted as League One play-off winners last season, will be delighted with the start they have made on their return to the second tier after a seven-year absence - taking four points from their first two league matches.
'A brilliant team effort' - reaction
Stephan: 'Ref missed a clear penalty!'
QPR boss Julien Stephan told BBC Radio London:
"I think we have more confidence now in ourselves, probably more technically and collectively. When you are like this offensively, you develop the confidence of the players.
"We are the youngest team in the league. They [the players] grow quite quickly and it's interesting to see that.
"Now we have to show real maturity if we want to finish in the top positions. We have to transform this kind of game."
Listen: Schumacher on Bolton's draw with QPR
Bolton Wanderers boss Steven Schumacher told BBC Radio Manchester:
"I'm delighted because obviously it was a really tough game. For us to get a point, our first clean sheet of the season, is really important.
"Obviously I felt we didn't have our best stuff today, certainly with the ball. We didn't really carry a threat, but we defended brilliantly.
"We spoke a lot in the week about how good QPR with the ball. Their goalkeeper is like an extra attacker. It was a brilliant team effort to keep it at 0-0."
