Swansea have now won only one of their past nine games against Sheffield United

Sheffield United ended a worrying week with a gritty performance as Callum O'Hare came closest to finding a winner in a goalless draw at Swansea City.

The Blades are still waiting for a first Championship victory – and league goal – of the new campaign, but there were encouraging signs as Swansea were stifled in their opening home league fixture of the season.

In a game of few clear-cut chances, O'Hare was unfortunate not to find a first-half breakthrough when his measured effort came back off the bar.

Swansea performed with plenty of endeavour but a shortage of quality as they made it four points from their first two league games in 2026-27.

United, who could face a 12-point deduction after the company used to buy the club in 2024 was placed into liquidation by the High Court on Wednesday, have two points on the board having begun with two goalless draws.

They looked more threatening at Swansea than they had against Birmingham City on the opening day, with Sam McCallum's header saved by Lawrence Vigouroux before Sydie Peck's drive was smothered by the Swansea goalkeeper.

The Swans attempted to play with purpose, but their lack of a cutting edge was summed up in the first period when Moussa Yeo cut inside dangerously only to miskick his shot before fellow summer signing Elijah Just missed his follow-up effort altogether.

The hosts' best opportunity after the break came when the hard-running Adam Idah crossed from the byline only for Joseph Opoku's drive – which may have been going wide anyway – to be blocked.

Swansea City finished 11th in the Championship last season, while Sheffield United were 13th

Uncertainty reigns at Bramall Lane with the EFL considering "whether any further action is required" following events at the High Court.

On the pitch, meanwhile, Chris Wilder is trying to mastermind a more positive start to the season than last year's desperate opening, when the South Yorkshire club lost their opening six league games.

Even in trying circumstances, Wilder has managed that.

Wilder's team may be yet to find a target – and look in need of some new faces – but the United boss can take heart from this display.

A lack of attacking menace was the frustration for Swansea, particularly given the forward options Vitor Matos has at his disposal right now.

Matos picked Idah – scorer of an opening-day winner at Stoke – ahead of Zan Vipotnik, and the Republic of Ireland striker put in an admirable shift without getting a sight of goal.

Vipotnik arrived from the bench – as did new recruit Ross Stewart as Matos gambled late on – but still there was no sign of a Swansea winner, with the Slovenia international's one headed effort comfortably saved by Michael Cooper.

Wilder: 'Little bit frustrated'

Swansea head coach Vitor Matos:

"I think really happy with the team in terms of the way we want to compete and the way we want to keep improving, that's the most important on this phase of the season.

"I think last week we played better football, but each game has different kinds of problems. We knew this one would be much more in terms of duels, in terms of man-marking.

"There were things we need to improve while some things are positive. Now it's about keeping on improving."

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder:

"It's been, as you understand, a difficult week for us but the players had clarity of a game-plan and committed to it.

"Everybody wanted to bash us over the head last week about the lack of chances that we've had and XGs and stuff like that.

"To come here against a possession-based team that creates every week… I don't think many teams will do what we've done today statistically. It wasn't a shape to be on the back foot, it was a shape to deal with their threats but create opportunities.

"The opportunities that we've created, there is just a slight disappointment that we've not got our noses in front."
