Millwall maintained their perfect start to the Championship season as Tairyk Arconte scored twice to help them cruise past 10-man Norwich.

Alex Neil's side, beaten play-off semi-finalists last season, dominated proceedings at The Den and took a deserved lead when Arconte reacted quickest after Josh Coburn's effort was parried by Vladan Kovacevic.

Arconte scored his second after Jake Cooper nodded down a cross from a quickly taken free-kick.

The game was up for the Canaries when Jose Cordoba saw red for a second yellow just past the hour, and substitute Luke Cundle added a late third for the hosts.

There were emotional scenes pre-match as Millwall remembered former manager Kenny Jackett, who died in June, with a minute's applause before kick-off.

The Lions started strongest - and never really looked back after Arconte opened the scoring. Indeed, their lead should have been greater at the break but for Cordoba hacking Kyrell Lisbie's effort off the line just before half-time.

Millwall's attacking adventurousness was on full display despite the absence of winger Femi Azeez, who has been linked with a move away before the transfer window shuts on 1 September.

Norwich's Panama international Cordoba, who played against England at this summer's World Cup, first saw yellow for hauling down Coburn. When he later dragged down Arconte, referee Sam Allison had little choice but to dismiss him.

After Cordoba saw red, Neil's side controlled what remained of the game before Cundle's third - after he was picked out by Camiel Neghli - added an exclamation mark to the result.

For Philippe Clement's Norwich, tipped to fight for promotion in 2026-27, this was a wake-up call.

While their opening defeat by West Bromwich Albion came tied to controversy, there could be no complaints at The Den as the Canaries limped away from south-east London still yet to claim a point this season.

'A fitting tribute to Kenny Jackett' - reaction

Millwall head coach Alex Neil told BBC Radio London:

"I thought it was a terrific performance from us. Arguably the most complete performance since I've been here - especially against the level of the opposition. Norwich are a good side.

"We were better in every facet of the game, I felt. Our press was better, our build [up] was better. I thought we caused them more problems.

"Their two centre-backs got booked really early in the game and we played on top of that. It was an all-round performance... I think especially on a day when we're paying tribute to Kenny Jackett it was a fitting way to perform."

Norwich City boss Phillipe Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"Far below par, far below what we expect of them [the players] and what they expect of themselves.

"In the first half we were totally bullied in almost every duel and every second ball. We went down 1-0 at half-time and it could have been more.

"The reaction in the second half was better but then we had the red card and it becomes even more complicated. It was totally not what we expected from this game."
