    The young player of the year award has to go to Nico O’Reilly. This season he’s made his England debut, is going to the World Cup as the Three Lions first choice fullback and scored two goals in a final while winning two trophies.

    I have to admire how well Kobbie Mainoo has been done after being left out for the first half of the season at Manchester United. Also, I really like the look of Alex Scott at Bournemouth.

    But Nico O’Reilly has been one of the standout performers at Manchester City this season, which is a feat in itself given the talent in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

    He is clearly the best left-back in the Premier League at the moment and has also scored crucial goals.

    It will be interesting to see how his career evolves at City without Guardiola’s guiding hand but he is setting the standard for other young players to follow.

    Nico O'Reilly enjoyed a breakout Premier League season with Manchester City in 2025-26.

    On the 22 March, the day after he turned 21, O'Reilly scored a brace in a 2-0 victory against Arsenal in the EFL Cup final, securing his club's ninth title in the competition.

  6. Kobbie Mainoo

    Young player of the year

    Kobbie Mainoo continued his rise as one of Manchester United's brightest stars during the 2025/26 season.

    The academy graduate netted the winner in a 3-2 victory over Liverpool, securing his club's place in the Champions League, and completing the first league double over Liverpool since the 2015–16 season.

    Few forwards score against Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United in an individual season - let alone in their breakthrough campaign.

    But Junior Kroupi has repeatedly stepped up for Bournemouth.

    The 19-year-old was playing in Ligue 2 in France last season, but quickly adapted to life in the Premier League following his summer move from Lorient.

    In fact, no other teenager has ever bagged more goals (13) in a debut season in the Premier League.

    It feels just the start for the talented Frenchman.

    It is uncommon to see a teenager reach double figures for goals in a Premier League season.

    The versatile 19-year-old attacker scored 13 goals in 33 Premier League appearances in his first full season at Bournemouth.

    Behind the scenes on the south coast, there is a belief that both Kroupi and Rayan are capable of winning the Ballon d’Or in the near future.

    It may prove difficult to keep hold of Kroupi, who is attracting interest from Champions League clubs, but Bournemouth will try after qualifying for European football for the first time in their history.

    Junior Kroupi had quite the season in 2025/26. The French attacker impressed with his talent for scoring goals.

    In May 2026, he scored his thirteenth goal of the season against Manchester City, the highest number of goals scored by any teenager in a debut season in Premier League history, surpassing the previous record by Robbie Fowler and Robbie Keane.

    At only 21, Kayode has adapted well to English football, showing potential to become a future star in the Premier League.

    I don't think it should be Martin Zubimendi but I am very happy he has been nominated. Played a huge amount of minutes in the first 3/4s of the season and was all over the pitch. Expecting him to be even better next season.

    Zubimendi deserves the signing of the season. The number of games he played week in week out delivering solid performances can't be overstated. He fell off this past few games because of fatigue but he still popped up with the goals and assists during the season.
